Flight Training
Kaikoura Aero Club operates from its own building at the Kaikoura Airfield. Operating our Flying School here at Kaikoura Aero Club is Flight Instructor Alex Mudgway who holds a C-CAT instructor rating.
The Flight Training is supported by Alistair Matthews, A CAT, Club Patron & Flight Examiner.

Kaikoura has two active runways, one sealed (700m) and one grass (615m) allowing students to become accustomed to both surface types.

There are Two seater and four seater high wing aircraft available to train in.

The Mountains and coastal environment offer ideal opportunity for students to gain experience in terrain/mountain flying and threat and error management as required in flight.
Our training fleet:
This aircraft was built in 2013 and purchased by Kaikoura Aero Club in 2016. This Light Sports Aircraft is great fun to fly with digital instrumentation and 5 hours fuel endurance that can be used to gain a PPL, CPL, Instructor rating, and can also be flown on a microlight licence.
The Cessna 172 four seat aircraft with a 180 hp engine, cruises at 110 kts and is one of the most popular light aircraft in the world. A great choice if you’re wanting to step up from the two seater aircraft.

With one of our experienced instructors beside you, you’ll take the controls of the aircraft and experience the thrill of real flying. It’s an exciting and hands on introduction to what it’s like to train as a pilot.
